J. B. Trommsdorff had vivid communication with national and international correspondents.Their main topics were the exchange of knowledge and scientific themes. The letters provide many insights into the private lives of the authors. The scientific community was quite small by the time. Trommsdorff had contacts to people from different scientific areas (chemistry, mineralogy, pharmacognosy, galenics and medicine). He even had influence on new professorships and employment. Journeys in the 18th/19th centuries were rather difficult, communication happened mainly by letters. The letters from and to Trommsdorff are an exceptional pharmaceutical-historical source, not only for the history of pharmacy, but also for the history of medicine, chemistry, biology and physics, also social, mentality and cultural history.
